The first thing we need to look at for the use of baking soda blasting for fire remediation or any of it’s uses is it’s softness being 2.5 on the Mohs scale of mineral hardness while a diamond is a 10 on this scale, being extremely hard.  Therefore baking soda blasting can effectively remove soot and fire damage residues while minimizing damage to the underlying surface (i.e., wood, PVC, modern wiring, ductwork etc.)

Soda blasting is a technique which is four times faster then hand sanding or brushing, and leaves wood with what can best be described as a “like new” appearance.  The process also provides a more thorough cleaning than previous techniques.  The soda blasting process allows the operator to clean deep into small gaps, entirely into corners, behind installed duct work, and in areas where the operator was previously unable to access.  Recent advances in nozzles used by Billings Media Blasting makes the soda blasting process even more effective.
